ISCI History

The International Sports Club of Indonesia ("ISCI") Cricket Club was formed in the early 1980s to cater for ISCI members who wished to continue their interest and enthusiasm for the game. The Jakarta cricket scene was, at that time, focused on periodic cricket matches being played at the ISCI Club Complex in Ciputat, South Jakarta. The original founding membership of the Club included recent members Greg Nairn, KK Ralhan and Nari Menon. In 1993, the Jakarta Cricket Association ("JCA") was formed, in which the ISCI Club became a founding member. The JCA league commenced in 1993 and ISCI was the inaugural winner.

ISCI initially played its home league games at the ISCI complex. As there were no dedicated cricket facilities available in or around Jakarta, the games were played on a metal based pitch with a matting cover. Due to the ground size and the proximity of a spectator stadium all bowling was from one end of the wicket only, with a complex series of deemed run "outcomes" for behind the wicket shots. Whilst several cricket venues have been developed over the last 10 years, League games continued to be played at the ISCI complex until the 2004/05 season.  Isci is one of the most successful members of the JCA being league champions 4 times (1993,1994,2000, 2003 2004) and runners up twice in 1995 and 2001.

Country Woods Histoy

The Country Woods Cricket Club ("CWCC") was also formed in the 1980's, by the late Conrad Festing, a stalwart in the early days of Jakarta cricket. It was based out of the Country Woods residential complex also in South Jakarta.

The CWCC was also one of the founding members of the JCA and was runner up to ISCI in the 1994 season. In the early days of the club, membership was limited to the residents of the  Country Woods complex. The CWCC initially played home league games at the Country Woods complex ground. Again, as dedicated cricket facilities were not available elsewhere, the games were played on a natural grass pitch mown between two sporting fields. The ground was memorable for the approximately 1 meter height difference between the two fields. This meant that well timed cover drives could be fielded waist high and outfield throws from the lower ground might come to a stand still if they failed to make the incline.

League games continued at this ground up until the 2004/05 season. CWCC was runner up in the JCA league in 1994 and were the division 2 champions in 2003.
